OHIO TOM DAY OF RACING ON THE 08/29/2010
Hey all. Wanted to fill you in on todays events at National Trails Raceway's Import Faceoff.
I have been the All Motor Pro class winner for the last 3yrs.
This year was the best yet and.... the worst yet...
The All motor class usually doesn't have many turnout.
Today was different. We had 5 cars trying to qualify for 4 spots. 3 new guys I have never seen before. Nice cars too.
The good news was, All of us were within 0.3's during qualifiying.
I made the field by less than 0.1s.
It was some real competition.
I was cutting good lights and knew I could make up the difference on the tree.
I even bought some C-16 fuel to try and get a little more out of it.
Everything was going well into 1st round.
When I hit 2nd gear, It developed a miss. running on 3.
I short shifted to 3rd and it cleaned up for a second then dropped a cyl again.
My opponenet drove by me and my day was done.
Damnit.. I was set to work my way to the win and my junk broke...Grrrrrrr.
I think it's a fouled plug or plugged jet. It runs fine around light load, but gives up a cyl under load.
Oh well. We'll get them next time.
The turbo motor is going in anyways.NCVWDRA

2 ND PALCE
Well this was Race 3 of this year. The weather man said a high of 80 and low humidity.
The stage was set...
Doug Dowd recently got his car all working right and TNT Friday night for some shake down passes.
He laid down a 10.35s. That was the fastest pass he has ever made in the car.
We had 17 cars show up to race. All those who broke at the last race were fixed up and ready to go at again.
Thanks to all the sponsors for making it all happen.
We did have our share of breakage.
Doug broke a rocker clean in half on his first time trial.
Eric broke his brand new intake manafolds somehow.
Dave and Troy both stripped 2nd gears.
We still had 14 cars heading into first round.
The racing action was HOT for sure.
Geno made his first pass down the dragstrip in 30yrs (if I heard correctly). Good Job Geno...
Daryl Reynolds turbo sedan was laying down some mid 11's passes and running very well. He's a serious USE contender.
I was paired up with Gary (winner of the last 2 races) in the first round.
I figured we might as well get this over with.
I was able to take the win with my 11.97 on my 11.95 dial. The car was set on Kill and I just kept going at it.
3rd round I got the by with a .501 r/t in the previous round. This advanced me to the final.
Daryl did well in the semi when he took out John (trike guy who always wins running 17s dial).
Daryl blew by him so fast, John couldn't read the stripe and Daryl went to the final with me.
The final Daryl had to hot lap his car it it ran off the pace. I got the easy win (and didn't redlight all day).
So, John got 3rd.
Daryl got 2nd and I got the WIN....
Yes, finally I got a W this season. I was jumping up and down. I was so happy.
As a "passing of the torch' Gary handed me the winning trophey personally.
Thanks to Jack Spencer for the awsome oldschool trophey..
I will display it with honor..BY TOM SIMPSOM

Party at Ohio Tom's house... (Marshallville Ohio).
Holy Cow what a turnout....
What started out as few friends coming over for benchracing turned into quite a party. I guess now that the weather is turing bad, folks just wanted to get out and do something.
No less than 15 VW freaks showed up for the fun. It was non-stop talking for over 4hrs. We all had great stories to share.
Lenny drove his new SRE powered turbo car all the way from Clevland area (45min) with no heat on a 29deg day.
I was told that he had ice sickels growing off his intake manafold. I think a few were haning off his nose too...
Soon after everyone was present, we called things to order and had an official Meeting.
On this list of things was the official formation of the "Penn/Ohio VW Enthusiasts".
Geno was kind enough to take on the Job of website managment and had T-shirts (and other swag) to share.
Dues were $10 (for shirt and swag). Most folks joined on the spot.
The club is about promoting the VW hobby in this Northern coastal region of the country.
We are a network of good friends who share a common love.
(more on this to come).
Also on the agenda was the new race schedule for the North Coast VW Drag Racing Association. (NCVWDRA).
Doug Dowd has confirmed all the listed dates for next seasons events. (see below for schedule)
It looks to be great schedule for next season that doesn't conflict with any of the other VW events in our area.
Several new sponsors have come on board to make the payouts even better this season.
Rich Sedoris is working on the fliers and should be up by Jan-Feb of 2010.
This new drag racing series is really turning into something and everyone who came was exited about everything.
Thanks to all who came over and had a few beers (or no beers) to hang out.
You can see a top secret project on the engine stand to the left in the group photo...
Stay tuned for fun....COMING EVENTS FOR 2010

Alrighty racers! We have submitted dates to the track for our 2010 season. These dates are subject to change
if they conflict with races already set or reserved by IHRA at QCR. I am confident they will go as planned.
We are shooting for:
Saturday June 19
Saturday July 24
Saturday August 7
Saturday September 11I will post the finalized schedule as soon as it is set in stone. I have spent hours making sure these dates do not
conflict with any established regional VW shows or races and I think we are good to go if these dates work with
the track. I will know within a couple weeks.
If anyone has any questions or comments please feel free to contact me at racerd6370@adelphia.net or by phone
at 330-206-3548.
Thanks,
Doug Dowd
